2017 Goals

Happy New Year!
(What's the statute of limitations on saying that by way?)

New Year's Eve, Manchester with Ria
I've been meaning to write this post for over a week but as per usual, things have gotten in the way and this year that thing has been my dissertation. Which, strangely enough, has taken priority...

I am a strong believer in setting goals throughout the year, of constant re evaluation and reflection so that you are always trying to better yourself. So I don't have New Years Resolutions this year, but instead, a continuation of goals that I continually want to work on and keep up. So without further ado, my continual lifestyle goals followed by my more specific 2017 goals.

Lifestyle Goal #1
Keep up the exercise, the healthy eating and keep pushing myself to improve and progress with all aspects of my fitness. Although I've learnt a lot about strength training over the past year, 2017 is the year where I want strength training to become an intrinsic part of my fitness regime and a year where I want to truly push myself with weight training. Running has always been where my improvements and motivation has been directed but this year I want to focus on becoming stronger and giving my body the nutrition it needs to do so.

Lifestyle Goal #2
Keep up the contact with the family and friends that you love. It doesn't take much to send someone you love a little message sometimes. Just to let them know you think of them and that you care. Try and be spontaneous. Send a postcard or a little gift. Make some cakes and give them to the people who have made you smile that day. Just put in that little bit more effort to be kind and loving and patient with the ones you love to show them just how much you care.

Lifestyle Goal #3
Enjoy the little moments in life more. Take the time everyday to think about all the good things. All the seemingly small things that add up significantly to make a good day great. Embrace the beauty of life and the freedom we have to live life the way we want to. Try not to get so caught up in stress and worry and sadness and life. Breathe. Be mindful and appreciate how wonderful life really is.

Lifestyle Goal #4
Be a little bit selfish sometimes. And I mean that in terms of learning when to say enough is enough and removing or distancing yourself from negativity. Sometimes you have to let go of things that are ultimately filling your life with more harm than good. Allow those slightly sour friendships to fizzle out. Don't give endless amounts of time to those who drain you emotionally. Learn to say no and to distance yourself from a bad situation. Sometimes it takes a little space for healing to occur. It doesn't mean you've failed or that you're a bad person, it just means that you're allowing both yourself and potentially someone else to find a healthier, more positive path.

Lifestyle Goal #5
Just try hard and work hard. Strive for everything you want to achieve. It is all in your grasp if you just keep trying. Don't let failure and rejection knock you down. Learn from your failures and make them into successes. Be your own person and do what you want to do.

That's it for the more generic rules to live by. Onto the more 2017 specific goals:

  • Squat 50kg
  • Run 5km in 25 minutes
  • Do a pull up without any weight assit
  • Do 30 pushups without stopping
  • Start MMA
  • Save up and go to Australia
  • Get a 1st or 2:1 in my degree
Things I'm looking forward to in 2017:
  • My 21st Birthday!
  • Seeing Swan Lake
  • Sarah's visit to the UK and our roadtrip together
  • Zara coming up to stay in Lancaster
  • Going on holiday with Ria
  • Visiting PJ in France
  • Australia
  • Graduation
  • Post exam fun
  • Visiting family in Scarborough in March
  • Family reunion in August
  • Getting my own place (with Ria hopefully!)

Let's see what 2017 brings eh?

I'm excited and slightly nervous!

xx
