I used to have a paragraph here detailing exactly how I came to be where I am today, but you know what? The main reason is that I just bloomin' love books. I have loved reading ever since my parents bought me a box set of Roald Dahl's stories and from when my gran would bring me home Jacqueline Wilson books every Wednesday after going to Pitsea market. I was obsessed with books throughout school, spending my lunch breaks helping out in the school library, my weekends in my local one, reading while I walked home (I know, so cool - audiobooks just weren't much of a thing then), devouring anything from Sarah Dessen, Sophie Kinsella, and David Nicholls to Philip Pullman, Kazuo Ishiguro and Jane Austen. When I went to university, my time spent reading waned in favour of other things (studying of course!) but my love for books was reignited after my brother gifted me 'The Final Empire' by Brandon Sanderson, and my obsession with fantasy was born.
After a few years of figuring out what I wanted to do with my life (does anyone ever really know?) and reading a lot more books besides, I began dipping my toes into the world of proofreading and editing, starting out with an academic proofreading service Proofessor UK, and taking on various freelance projects for writers and businesses such as Scribly, Savanna, and Celine. I began to seek the work of publishers, as, well, books are where my heart well and truly belongs. I currently work as a proofreader and copyeditor for the publishing houses Boldwood Books, Wordcatcher Publishing and The History Press, and have worked on over thirty manuscripts of fiction and non-fiction books to date.
