Having been a lover of stories since learning to read, becoming a proofreader and editor, has, over time, felt like the only path that truly made sense for me.
I was heavily encouraged at school to take a more science based route, and so I decided at university to study a subject that bridged my love of humanities and science - Geography. After completing a bachelors in Geography at Lancaster University and the University of Calgary, I soon realised that a job working for the environment agency or an energy company just wasn't for me. I decided to move to France, to figure out exactly what it was that felt right for me. Once there, I completed a TEFL course, where I re-studied the English language and truly gained an appreciation for my mother tongue, with its many quirks and nuances. I decided to complete a qualification in proofreading, which is when I became a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).
After completing this course, I began dipping my toes into the world of proofreading and editing, starting out with an academic proofreading service Proofessor UK, and taking on various freelance projects for writers and businesses such as Savanna, Celine and PerfectStay. I began to seek the work of publishers, as books are where my heart well and truly belongs. I currently work as a proofreader and copyeditor for the publishing houses Boldwood Books and Wordcatcher Publishing, and have worked on over ten manuscripts of fiction and non-fiction books to date. My particular interest and experience lies in fantasy, contemporary, thriller and historical fiction.
