Pre-Submission Critique and Copyedit of 10,000 Words*

At this stage, you're probably looking to submit your story to publishers or agents. You feel happy with your story as a whole, although you're just not quite sure your story is up to the test of the brutal and often demoralising submissions and querying process.

A pre-submission critique and copyedit of 10,000 words will not only provide you with everything included in the copyediting service, it will also give you the added benefit of critique comments in your document. This will provide you with feedback on the larger picture elements of your story, and how they come across in the beginning of the book.

By opting for this service, you may also pick up useful tools that help you in your self-editing process. By seeing my changes and suggestions, you will know what to look out for when continuing on with editing the rest of the story.

What this service includes

  • Flagging up clunky sentences, overwriting and repetition that take away from your pace and flow
  • Checking for spelling, punctuation and grammar errors
  • Ensuring consistency in spellings, capitalisation, style, language
  • Looking out for authenticity in dialogue, as well as ensuring dialogue punctuation and tagging is sound
  • Guidance in formatting and design
  • Flagging up any ambiguity in the text
  • Comments on POV, pacing, characters, setting and structure
  • Flagging up any initial problems with plot

The process

With this service you will receive one full read through of the first 10,000 words of your story, after which I will send the document back to you to review any queries.

As publishers often ask for the first three chapters of your story, I am happy to negotiate a different fee for this service depending on the word count of the first three chapters of your novel.
